Tower Bridge 2, London
2016
On the top floor of an old flour mill, this loft has interesting support column and beam positions with angled walls that follow the shape of the river below. The loft was fitted out in 1996 and updated in 2004. When it was sold in 2016, the new owners asked for a rearrangement of the master bedroom and alterations to master bathroom to accommodate a bath. The loft has extraordinary views of the River Thames and of Tower Bridge. The new bath is positioned behind a sliding panel to allow views of the bridge from the bath. The washbasin, vanity unit and the bath are all purpose made from acrylic sheet and the new circular shower enclosure is made from translucent acrylic sheet. The layout of the original fit-out is retained, with a long wall organising the floor plan into reception space and private space. The guest bedroom, utility room and guest cloakroom remain unchanged. A new freestanding wall with bookcase and fireplace subdivides the large living space into a sitting area and a dining area. Concealed sliding and pivoting doors allow for privacy within the open plan layout.
